You may be technically good at what you do and have years of work experience. However these days we are often accessed by another yardstick. That is our ability to get along with others that we work with and be a better team player. This is where Emotional intelligence or EQ comes into play. There is much evidence to strongly suggest that there is a close connection between a person’s level of emotional intelligence and the ability to be successful in life and at work.
This workshop is designed to equip learners with the essential skills to enhance and improve their EQ and relational skills, they will learn to identify and strategically manage emotions to the benefit of themselves and those whom they are working with.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, learners are able to:
- Understand the concept of Emotional Intelligence and the factors associated with it.
- Discover your emaotional intelligence strengths and areas for development.
- Acquire EI strategies to build EI competencies at work and in life.
- Develop emotional competence to engage in difficult relational situations.
- Gain insights on how to listen with empathy.
- Understand self-talk techniques to manage yourself under stress.
- Apply Emotional Intelligence to build more effective relationships to achieve better work outcomes.

Course Outline
1. Understanding Emotions & the Autopilot mode
- Why do we have emotions?
- What are emotions for?
- Where do they come from?
- Biological basis of emotions
- What is emotional instinct?
- Advantages and disadvantages of the autopilot mode.
2. Introduction to Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
- What is EQ?
- EQ’s relationship with the Autopilot mode.
- Introduction to Goleman’s 4 EQ domains: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness and Relationship Management.
3. Skill No. 1: Self-Awareness
- What is my current EQ level?
- Assessment of EQ.
- Understanding The factors of EQ.
4. Skill No. 2: Self-Management
- Understanding the intelligence behind emotions.
- Negative emotions and their impact on others around you.
- Participants learn how certain thinking traps about the people they are working with can lead to negative outbursts of emotions.
- Behavioural strategies are taught to overcome these. E.g Dealing with evasive behaviours and self-regulation will be taught.
5. Skill No. 3: Social Awareness
- Introduction to empathy.
- Empathising with the people one work’s with.
- One of the most critical skills in EQ to develop is empathy. Participants learn what empathy is and through an experience, will come to fully appreciate the value of empathy.
- Listening with Empathy.
- Assessing one’s listening style with subordinates and superiors.
- Empathetic body language.
- The listener preference profile is administered and demonstrations with case studies on how one behaves when listening to subordinates and superiors.
- The important skill of body language.
6. Skill No. 4: Relationship Management with others
- Managing relationships with empathy through verbal skills: Open and closed ended questions, Clarification, Reflection, Paraphrasing, etc.
- Participants learn how to use empathetic verbal tools to express empathy and build a trusting and respectful relationship with the people they work with.
- Work-based Scenarios for good EQ at the Workplace.
- The learners will now be given some work-based situations where they will need to practice good EQ skills to achieve a positive outcome.

Caroline has more than 10 years of invaluable experience as an Editor of lifestyle and technical publications and 20 years teaching business management, environmental and soft-skills communication.
As a former journalist, Caroline’s professional work experience as a Corporate Trainer/Facilitator, Keynote Speaker and Learning & Development Consultant; has required her to market the value of her programs and persuade clients to value and understand the urgency of good communication and management skills in the work force. As an ACTA certified WSQ trainer, She has also worked with the Workforce Development Agency of Singapore to develop training content for the Employability Skills System where she successfully attained industry approved competencies in conducting, planning and designing competency based assessments for communication workshops.
Her many opportunities in working with the public and private sectors around the world has enhanced her training experience. Learners of her training workshops attest to her motivational, instructional and highly experiential training methodology that have helped them in their workplace business management. Caroline has trained operational, supervisory and managerial staff from various organisations.
She holds a Master of Arts in Mass Communication from NTU (Singapore) and has attained the Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification through the London Teacher Training College and also teaches English as a foreign language. Caroline is also an MBTI®, DISC Accredited Administrator, Enneagram and Lumina Spark/Emotion practitioner; Certified ScrumMaster® and ICAgile Certified Professional Agile Team Facilitation (ICP-ATF) of which she uses such tools for top level managers and supervisors on managing their leadership styles and team members. Caroline is now pursuing her Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Teesside (UK).
